The NE Iowa Food & Fitness Initiative has scheduled a tour of local gardens later in July as a way to show the public about the local food system and farm to school programs. The event is free and open to the public, although registration is requested.
The Winneshiek County event will start at the Decorah High School garden at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21st. Transportation via bus as well as a light supper will be provided to all preregistered participants. The Decorah School gardens, Kymar Acres and Given Gardens will showcase their farms. Call Johanna Bergan (563) 380-9674 to register.
A separate tour will be held August 9th in Cresco for Howard County residents. Additional tours in Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette and Chickasaw counties are in the planning.
