A new oncologist is serving patients at Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah Clinic.

Dr. Sigurd Bodvarsson is helping patients with breast, lung, colorectal, ovarian and prostate cancer, among others, get treatment for the diseases.

Dr. Bodvarsson will provide consultations for new cancer patients and for those who were previously being seen by Gundersen Lutheran medical oncologist Dr. Alcee Jumonville.

A native of Iceland, Dr. Bodvarsson graduated from medical school at the University of Iceland. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at National University Hospital in Reykjavik, Iceland before completing a residency and fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in Madison, Wisconsin. His medical interests include breast cancer, melanoma and lung cancer.  He joined Gundersen Lutheran's Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders earlier this year.

"I'm pleased to provide patients in the Decorah area who are battling cancer with a treatment option close to home," comments Dr. Bodvarsson. "When cancer affects individuals and their families, sparing them a long drive, especially at today's gas prices is the least we can do."
