The Decorah School Board says budgeting would be a lot easier for school districts if the Iowa Legislature met its own deadlines.
The legislature is at least theoretically required to set the allowable growth formula for school districts within 30 days of the beginning of the legislative session. This year that vote came in June instead.
Decorah School Board members are asking the Iowa Association of School Boards to lobby for a decision in the first 30 days of the legislative session on allowable growth and preschool funding.
Said school board member Mona Nelson, "If you know that in January, it's a whole lot different than if you know it June 30th."
