The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says its July 1st through July 4th Special Traffic Enforcement Program led to the issuing of 82 traffic citations. Included in the figure were two arrests for drunk driving, 31 citations for underaged possession of alcohol, one felony arrest and one arrest warrant served. Deputies responded to five traffic accidents and gave assistance to another five motorists.
A survey taken before the STEP showed 95 percent of vehicle occupants were using their seat belts. That figure increased to 97 percent in a post-STEP survey.
