Decorah Parks System will celebrate its 100th Anniversary

Decorah Parks & Recreation Department officials are making plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Decorah's park system.  It was on September 6th, 1911, that the Decorah City Council passed a motion to create the parks system and to accept a donation of 11 acres to create what is now Phelps Park.

Ceremonies to mark the occasion are being planned for this September.

Phelps Park has now grown to 56 acres, while the entire parks system has over 500 acres of land.
