Six Winneshiek Medical Center volunteers have been presented the Governor's Volunteer Award for their contributions.
Shirley Arneson, Gert Barth, Darlene Frana, Dorothy Halverson, Jerrine Jacobsen and Pat Usgaard were recognized for length of service and individual contributions.
Terry Branstad started the volunteer award program during his first year as governor in 1983. The program was designed to honor commitment, service and assistance to Iowans. It has expanded to let Iowa non-profits honor their volunteers along with those in state government.
This year 725 outstanding Iowa volunteers were honored in four ceremonies held throughout the state.
