Luther College officials on Thursday will showcase the plans for the college's $8 million aquatic center. Initial concept plans for the proposed $8 million aquatic center project were released last summer.
The 31,500-square-foot addition to the Regents Center will feature an eight-lane, 25-yard by 30-meter competition pool with the eight-foot depth, a 14-foot-depth diving area, state-of-the-art timing equipment, larger deck and diving spaces for competing teams and seating for 300-plus spectators.
Luther plans to finance construction of the new aquatic facility with a combination of gifts and bond financing. The college is considering two options, one totaling $8 million and a second plan totaling $6 million. The $8 million plan adds 12,000 sq. ft. to provide locker rooms and a lobby entrance to accommodate community access and visiting teams.
To date, Luther College has secured over $1.1 million in gifts and pledges toward the aquatic center project. To move forward with the $8 million plan, an additional $2.9 million must be raised. The remaining $4 million would be funded through bond financing.
