North Winn School Board: Set allowable growth at 4 percent

Posted: Tue, Jun 14, 2011 7:40 AM

The North Winneshiek School Board is urging the Iowa legislature to set next year's allowable growth rate at no lower than 4 percent.

The recommendation is part of a series of positions approved by the school board and being forwarded to the Iowa Association of School Boards.  The state legislature has not yet voted on this year's allowable growth rate, with Democrats insisting on a 2 percent increase and Republicans arguing for zero to one percent.

The North Winn School Board is also recommending that the state should increase funds to offset transportation costs for rural schools.  The board is also encouraging the federal and state governments to adequately support mandated special education programs.
