Can a portable hot dog stand do business on the sidewalks of Decorah?

City of Decorah officials are facing a question they haven't faced before--Should a mobile food stand be allowed to do business on public sidewalks in Decorah?

Decorah businessman David Polansky--the organizer of the previous two "RecessionFest" concerts--is asking for permission to use public sidewalks for his business, a "signature hot dog" stand called "All Dogs Go To Heaven."

Polansky says he "wants to give the Decorah area a shot."  He says his hot dog stand would also sell hamburgers, brats and other food.  The mobile food stand is six feet long and five feet wide.

Decorah City Council member Rachel Vagts called the proposal "a novel idea."  Other city council members didn't know what t think of the idea.

Polansky's proposal has been referred to a meeting of the city's Properties Committee in two weeks.
