The major differences between three maps being reviewed by the Winneshiek County Temporary Redistricting Commission involve ward boundaries in the City of Decorah. For the most part, county supervisor districts outside of the Decorah area have already been determined by population figures.
The three maps--labeled "Option A," "Option B" and "Option C'--all call for putting Fremnth, Burr Oak, Hesper, Highland, Orlean, Bluffton, Canoe, Pleasant, Lincoln and Madison Townships into the 1st Supervisory District. The three maps also call for a 2nd District that includes Glenwood, Frankville, Bloomfield and Military Townships and a 3rd Supervisory District that includes Sumner, Calmar, Springfield, Jackson and Washington Townships.
Where the three maps differ is in the boundaries of the 4th and 5th Supervisory Districts. Option B creates the 4th Supervisory District out of Decorah's 4th and 5th Wards, while Options A & C create the 4th Supervisory District out of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Wards, although the two plans draw ward boundaries differently.
City of Decorah officials have seen the three proposed redistricting plans, but have not yet endorsed one of the three. The County Redistricting Commission will meet again Thursday--and may pick one of the maps at that time.
