Seven local students who are pursuing careers in health care professions have received scholarships from the Winneshiek Medical Center Auxiliary.
Two new scholarships were awarded this year--the William G. Naef Scholarship was given to Chelsea Adams of Spillville, who is enrolled in the nursing program at Mount Mercy University and the Dr. Garfield Miller Scholarship was given to Garret Lechtenberg of Ossian, who is in the third year of the medical program at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
Auxiliary scholarships were given to Julie Dietzenbach of Fort Atkinson, who is majoring in nursing at Kirkwood Community College; Kimberly Gilbert of Decorah, who is attending Clarke University for nursing; Samantha Jewell of Decorah, who is pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Des Moines University; Karissa Shindelar of Decorah, who is attending Grandview University for nursing; and Lauren Wettach of Decorah, who is pursuing her Physical Therapy Doctorate at St. Ambrose University.
The Winneshiek Medical Center Auxiliary scholarships are given to residents of Winneshiek County pursuing a health care profession. The applicant must be accepted into an accredited health career program to be eligible. Proceeds from the Auxiliary's bakeless bake sale, spring brunch and holiday cookie sale went towards the 2011 scholarship fund.
