Sign-up has begun for free mammograms

Winneshiek County Celebration of Life has begun accepting applications for free mammogram screenings to under or uninsured women to be performed on Thursday, July 14th, in cooperation with Winneshiek Medical Center and Gundersen Lutheran--Decorah Clinic.  

All free screenings are awarded based on financial need. The applications are available at Margaret's Clothing store, Winneshiek Medical Center, Gundersen-Lutheran or on-line at www.winneshiekcol.com.  

Women age 40 and older should apply for the benefit. For instance, if you are uninsured you may qualify, or if you're in a household of 4 with an income of $66,000 or less annually, or a single woman with an income of $32,490 or less, or with an insurance deductible of $5,000 or more, you may qualify.

Applications may be dropped of at Margaret's Clothing Store or mail it to:  Winneshiek County Celebration of Life, 210 W. Water St., Decorah, IA 52101.  Applications must be completed by Monday, June 27th.  For more information call (563) 382-8208.

Funding for free mammogram screenings is through Winneshiek County Celebration of Life, a community effort to raise money for breast cancer awareness and prevention.  

The American Cancer Society recommends women should begin yearly mammogram screenings at the age of forty or earlier if there is a family history of breast cancer, or as recommended by their health care provider.
