If you need something heavy moved, it probably makes a lot of sense to hire someone who spends some of their time moving opponents around on a wrestling mat.
Of course, the members of "All Wrestler Construction" would point out that they have many other skills, such as painting and yard work and installing retaining walls.
"All Wrestler Construction" consists of members of the Luther College wrestling squad who spend the summer in Decorah so they can take part in training, weightlifting and wrestling practices on the Luther campus. The business was started ten years ago by then-wrestler Jesse Ryerson. This year's AWC includes Billy Barringer, who says doing the construction work during the day "is so convenient for our schedule."
Barringer says many of AWC's customers are Luther professors and staff members who need work done on their homes, but also want to support the wrestling team.
Not that hiring AWC is a charity case. "We take pride in (doing a job) as fast as we can and as good as we can," says Barringer. That work consists of a lot of jobs moving heavy items, as well as odd jobs around the house.
The Luther wrestlers are strong enough to move the heavy objects, although Barringer, who wrestled at 149 pounds the past season, notes "we're not always big guys."
