Luther College graduate named Associate Music Director of the Houston Grand Opera

The Houston Grand Opera has hired a Luther College graduate for its newly-created position of Associate Music Director.

Eric Melear previously was Associate Conductor/Assistant Chorus master with the Houston Grand Opera.  He has also served as Head of Music Staff and Studio Manager at Wolf Trap Opera. 

Melear graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Luther, where he had a double major in music and math.  His studies also included graduate work with pianist Martin Katz at the University of Michigan. 

As Associate Music Director of the Houston Grand Opera, Melear will support Houston Grand Opera Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers by conducting, coaching and accompanying singers and managing music staff.
