City council approves renewal of VFW Club's liquor license--despite concerns

The Decorah City Council on Monday night approved a renewal of the VFW Club's Class C liquor license--but not without a discussion first about alleged problems at the club.

Police Chief Bill Nixon, in response to questions from city council members, stated "there are still issues" involving the club.  He told the city council "we're in there quite a lot."

The biggest operational issue involves kids under the age of 18 who have been discovered inside the VFW building late at night.  Nixon says there have also been problems with disorderly conduct around the VFW building.

However, no citations have been issued.  Since that's the case, police continue to work with the operator and the city council saw no other alternative but to approve the liquor license extension.
