The State Nominations Review Committee has recommended the nomination of the Decorah Municipal Bath House and Swimming Pool to the National Park Service for the National Register of Historic Places.

The committee voted unanimously to approve the nomination for forwarding to the National Park Service with a recommendation for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.

After a few revisions and additions are made according to the direction of the committee, the nomination will be forwarded to the National Park Service for final approval, which is considered to be a formality after approval of the State Committee.

The Decorah Historic Preservation Commission has been pursuing registration of the Decorah Municipal Pool Building as part of a Certified Local Government Grant which was applied for and has been managed by Henderson.

"It's great to be able to recognize this important historical asset for Decorah and the surrounding area," said Decorah Historic Preservation Commission Cahir Kyrl Henderson.  "Being a swimmer myself, I know a lot of people use this pool and building every day.  But I often wonder how many are aware of its historical significance and importance.  This process allows us to gather the facts and go through the process so we can all share in appreciating this wonderful community resource."
