A citizens group that raised $42,000 in donations from people agreeing to sponsor mileage markers on the Prairie Farmer Trail is getting upset about delays in erecting the mileage markers.
Representatives of the Prairie Springs Recreational Trails Board say it has been over four years since the Prairie Farmer Trail from Calmar to Cresco was paved—but the mileage markers still haven't gone up.
Winneshiek County Conservation Director Barb Schroeder says the delay is due to a lawsuit filed about the Prairie Farmer Trail. Schroeder declined to give any details of the lawsuit because a mediation session is scheduled for July 26th. She did tell the group "We're in a bad spot right now."
Trails Board member Wayne Mashek says the donors are getting antsy, since they promised money but haven't seen the markers go up.
Mashek and other members of the group have agreed to set up a meeting with Schroeder and with Winneshiek County Attorney Andy Van Der Maaten to discuss the lawsuit in private and to figure out if anything could be done to put up the markers while the lawsuit is still in process.
