Seniors can qualify for Farmers Market Nutrition checks

Starting Wednesday, NorthLand Agency on Aging will be distributing books of checks worth $30 for use by seniors at farmers markets in Iowa as part of the Iowa Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

To qualify, you must be at least 60 years old and have an income below $20,147 if single and $27,214 if married.  Eligible seniors will receive one book of checks worth $30.00.  Married couples may receive two books of checks, if both spouses meet the guidelines. The checks can only be spent at a certified Farmers Market for Iowa grown fresh produce.

Eligible participants will receive a brochure explaining how to use the checks and where to find approved Farmers Markets.  The checks must be spent by October 31st.
   
Participants must fill out a certification form to apply for the checks. NorthLand Agency on Aging will be distributing checks Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Decorah Senior Center at 806 River Street.  The checks will also be available at the NorthLand Agency on Aging offices Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. until September 30th.  Contact the NorthLand Agency on Aging office at 1-800-233-4603 or 563-382-2941 with any questions.
