Two Decorah HS students have received National Merit Scholarships

More than 2,900 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities were announced today by National Merit Scholarship Corporation

The recipients include Ben Bernatz and Jacqueline Ott from Decorah High School.

Benjamin Bernatz has been accepted to enroll at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.  He is interested in economics and political science.

Jacqueline Ott has been accepted to enroll at Luther College, where she plans to be a computer major.

The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

8,300 high school seniors will receive National Merit Scholarships totaling almost $35 million this year.  Those 8,300 students receiving scholarships are an elite group—selected from around 1.5 million juniors in some 22,000 high schools who took the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
