Wilhelm asks the public to call Governor Branstad's office

Budget negotiations at the Iowa Capitol are at a standstill.

So State Senator Mary Jo Wilhelm of Cresco is calling on her constituents to call Governor Branstad's office at (515) 281-5211 and urge him to compromise.

Says Wilhelm, "Our schools and colleges, as well as Iowa's recovery from the national recession, will be damaged if we don't reach a common-sense compromise."

Wilhelm says the budget cuts proposed by the Republicans are unnecessary because the state's reserve funds are at $600 million and are expected to reach $900 million by the end of the fiscal year.

Says Wilhelm, "It's up to you—and your friends, neighbors and family members—to help break the stalemate over the state budget among the House, the Senate and the Governor."
