On Thursday afternoon the Decorah Community School Board approved Larson Construction of Independence as the low bidder for the high school renovation project. The base bid of $20,438,000 was reduced to $19,649,500 after some alternate bids reduced the project cost. One of those reductions was worth $828,000 for a different roofing surface.
Big local winners in the sub-contractor list working for Larson Construction include Casper Plumbing and Heating for mechanical work, Novak Electric, and LB Masonry. Project architect Nicolas Hildebrandt for StruXture Architects was pleased with the contractor and labeled them as "one of the best in the state" and credited them with a long history of successful school projects.
Hildebrandt also noted that the four contractors completing bids were competitive, and that there was only about five percent difference between the highest and lowest bid.
