The Decorah Community School Board approved two building fire alarm bids at their Monday night meeting. They approved a bid of $30,800 by Perry Novak for fire alarms at West Side School, and a $60,736 by Voltmer Electric for alarms at John Cline. The Novak bid was close to other West Side bids, but the Voltmer bid on John Cline was about $15,000 below the nearest bidder. The systems are funded by a Harkin Fire Safety Grant. The State Fire Marshall had called for replacements of the alarm systems.
Other than extended discussion on the tennis court project, the Board engaged in limited discussion regarding a variety of summer projects. Baseball and softball field irrigation (after seasons), John Cline curb and gutter work, and continued work on the West Side playground will be the most visible projects. A variety of computer system replacements will occur along with continued work on the Metronet fiber optic project.
