Canton man gets his car impounded following crash with Luther van

Decorah Police impounded the car of 47-year-old Scott Helm of Canton after he crashed it into a Luther College van on Friday afternoon.

Police who responded to the accident were told by Helm that he did not have a valid driver's license nor insurance on the vehicle.  Helm also stated he had not transferred the title to the vehicle to his name since he had purchased the car.

Helm's vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded until he can provide proof of insurance, current registration and a valid driver's license.  He was issued a ticket for having no insurance.

The driver of the Luther van--59-year-old Duane Senft of Decorah--was not injured and neither was Helm.
