April was wetter than normal

April in Decorah started out warmer than average--but then got cooler and wetter the second half of the month.

Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says temperatures for the month were above average, but there was really two different climates during April.  The high temperatures the first 14 days of April were above average, but the highs were below average the last 16 days of the month.

Overall, temperatures averaged 47.7 degrees--0.5 degrees warmer than normal.  But high temperatures reached into the 80s on two days, peaking at 84 degrees on the 11th.  Then temperatures dipped to as low as 25 degrees on April 25th.

Decorah had 4.04 inches of precipitation in April.  That was 0.99 inches more than average.  Precipitation was recorded on 18 out of 30 days in April--including 10 out of the last 16 days.
