Winneshiek County Landfill to close some Saturdays starting in July

The Winneshiek County Landfill will be open only two Saturdays a month starting in July.

Landfill manager Dave Hageman says the volume of garbage being taken to the landfill has dropped by 9 percent as people improve on their recycling habits.  While that will extend the life of the present landfill, it also lowers landfill fees.

Hageman says the landfill will be open from 8:00 a.m. until noon on the first and third Saturdays of the month—and closed all other Saturdays.
