Mr. Answer Person answers your eagle cam questions

Posted: Sun, Apr 24, 2011 6:39 PM

Decorah's bald eagle webcam is hugely popular, which means a lot of people have been talking about it.  Today Mr. Answer Person answers some common questions:

"I understand they shut down the eagle cam one time because there was a dead cat in the eagle's nest."

Mr. Answer Person says: "No.  In fact, no, no, no, no, no!  This is one of those urban rumors--NO ONE has seen a cat in the eagle's nest.  The eagle cam has been down a couple of times, but it has been because of an equipment problem.  The eagle cam has never, never. never been shut down because of a cat in the nest.

"Sometimes the picture is blurry.  Why can't they clean the lens?"

Mr. Answer Person says: "They can't clean the lens because the eagles are up there!  If anyone went up to the eagle's nest, the mother and father eagle would leave the nest, abandoning the eaglets--and no one would want that."

"I see cars driving down the road in back of the eagle's nest.  Shouldn't police block off the road so the eagles aren't disturbed?"

Mr. Answer Person says, "Believe it or not, the Decorah Police Department has gotten phone calls from people worried about the bald eagles.  But relax--the eagles are used to traffic, they're used to cold temperatures and they're even used to snowstorms..
