Decorah man gets two years probation on prescription drug charges

60-year-old Clifton Weston of Decorah had been scheduled to go on trial Wednesday on two counts of the manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver oxycodone.  Instead Weston entered "guilty" pleas Tuesday to reduced charges.

Weston was sentenced to two years in prison, to be served consecutively, on two aggravated misdemeanor counts of illegally dispensing prescription drugs.  The penalty was suspended and Weston was placed on two years probation instead, including receiving substance abuse counseling.

The original charges against Weston were filed following an investigation by Decorah Police into the death last February of a 30-year-old Decorah woman.  The State Medical Examiners Office ruled the death of Jessica Moeller was accidental, but police filed charges against Weston in late May of last year, accusing him of supplying oxycodone to Moeller.
