A Decorah woman was able to avoid major damage in a traffic accident early Saturday morning when snow flurries had caused slippery conditions.
50-year-old Kayla Austin was driving west on Highway 9 when she crossed past the bridge over Division Street. Rain and sleet had turned to heavy wet snow by 5:30 that morning. Austin's car began to slide to the southeast, going off the roadway.
Despite the fact that her car slid 100 feet down an embankment, the car never rolled over, Austin was not injured and damage was confined to $3,000. Austin was also not ticketed.
