Casey's in Decorah agrees to pay fine for tobacco law violation

The managers of the Casey's store on Old Stage Road in Decorah have decided not to fight a citation for a tobacco law violation.  The convenience store had been cited for selling tobacco to an underage person.  Casey's could have requested a hearing on the citation, but has instead agreed to pay a $300 civil penalty, according to Decorah City Attorney Rick Zahasky.

Zahasky says the agreement includes the provision that the penalty payment will count as the first violation of tobacco laws by Casey's, meaning the penalties for any future violations would be more severe.
