The Iowa DNR says three elk killed last month in Allamakee County have tested negative for chronic wasting disease. Tests on a fourth elk have not been completed.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the Department of Natural Resources says that two other elk believed to be in Allamakee County are still be sought. The elk were killed because it wasn't known where they came from and because no wild elk herds are in Iowa.
The Iowa DNR says harvesting the elk is a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the disease.
