Agricultural awards handed out

The 2011 Friend in Agriculture Individual Award has been presented to longtime Winneshiek County farmer Walter Langland by the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce.

The award was presented to Langland Wednesday at the 10th Annual Ag Appreciation Luncheon in the Danan Lansing Building on the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds.  A former state legislator, Langland has been a strong proponent for soil conservation and education, and most recently has been involved with the Bear Creek Watershed Program.

The 2011 Friend in Agriculture Business Award was presented to Lang's Dairy Equipment.  The company serves dairy farms in 25 Iowa counties, 5 Minnesota counties and 5 Wisconsin counties.

Two scholarships in the amount of $350 each were awarded to Danielle Fulsaas, a senior at Decorah High School, and Chelsey Fagle, an Agriculture Education student at NICC Calmar.

The Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce ag committee sponsored Wednesday's luncheon.
