Ask Mr. Answer Person: "Who is OHFA?"

Posted: Tue, Mar 15, 2011 5:12 PM

It's not often that Mr. Answer Person tackles a question raised during a governmental meeting.  But Monday's meeting of the Winneshiek County Board raised the question, "Who is the Oneota Historic Future Alliance?"

Mr. Answer Person says: You're probably much more familiar with OHFA's previous name—the "East Side School Development Committee."  When the group lost its battle to save the historic school, it wanted to continue its work in support of preserving historic buildings, but it realized it would have to change its name.  That's when "The Oneota Historic Future Alliance" name was created—but the organization itself dates back to 2004 and has been a registered 501C3 non-profit group for the last eight years.  That means the group has filed incorporation papers and has a board of directors.

The group also has a website, which posts the mission statement of the organization.  You can visit it at http://www.oneotahistoricfuture.org/
