School Board sets Proposed School Budget Hearing

Posted: Mon, Mar 14, 2011 9:26 PM

On Monday night the Decorah Community School Board set April 11, 6:05 p.m., as the time for public hearing on the proposed 2011-12 school budget.

Although the  proposed budget has very large figures related to long term debt proceeds and anticipated renovation costs, the general operation budget shows limited change, since Superintendent Mike Haluska said the budget had been prepared on a ZERO allowable growth rate.  The Iowa Legislature has yet to determine the allowable growth rate.

The budget does reflect the increased tax rate increase of approximately 91 cents/$1,000 taxable assessed valuation, mostly directed to pay general obligation bonds related to the high school renovation. During the bond referendum, it was projected that the increase would be $1.
