Beef royalty named

Nicole Massman has been named the 2011 Winneshiek County Beef Queen.  The announcement was made at Saturday night's Winneshiek County Cattlemen's banquet.

Nicole is the daughter of Jerome and Brenda Massman of Ossian.  She is a senior at North Fayette High School, where she is active in volleyball, receiving a varsity letter, basketball, track also lettering, Peer Helpers and Spanish Club.

In the FFA program at North Fayette High School she serves as chapter secretary.  She received her Iowa FFA Degree in 2010 and will be receiving the 2011 Food Science and Technology award.

Nicole has been a 9 year member of the Bloomfield Busy Bees 4-H exhibiting beef. She also belongs to Holy Name Church, Ducks Unlimited and Echo Valley Archers.

Nicole plans to attend Northeast Iowa Community College majoring Ag Business this Fall before transferring to Iowa State University.

Paula Kovarik, the daughter of Kevin and Carol Kovarik of Calmar, was named Beef Princess on Saturday night, while Jenna Knutson and Olivia Massman were named Little Miss Cowgirls.
