The Vision Iowa Board has given almost as much money to Decorah as it has to all other communities in Winneshiek, Howard and Chickasaw counties. State Senator Mary Jo Wilhelm says Decorah has received $1,752,978 from the program, which is part of the Iowa Department of Economic Development. The Vision Iowa Board has been a consistent supporter of the Trout Run Trail project.
By contrast, all other communities in Wilhelm's state senate district have received $2,011,393. Wilhelm has no role in the determination of which communities receive the funding.
Other communities receiving Vision Iowa funding in the past include: Postville: $850,000; Fort Atkinson: $450,000; New Hampton: $269,000; Nashua: $150,000; Elma: $140,000; Ionia: $77,393; and Cresco: $75,000.
