The Decorah City Council has unanimously approved the city's proposed 2011-2012 fiscal year budget.
The budget calls for keeping the tax levy at $12.54 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. However, overall valuation in the City of Decorah has gone up, so the budget has $838,000 in additional spending. 2010-2011 spending was $11.4 million while 2011-2012 spending is projected at $12.2 million.
There were no public comments on the budget on Monday night. City Finance Committee Chairperson Paul Wanless pointed out that the City of Decorah's property tax mill rate remains 21st highest out of 28 mill rates of communities of similar sizes to Decorah.
