Iowa Public Television has announced the on-air schedule for a story it did about Decorah last fall.
Segments of the story done for "Iowa's Simple Pleasures" will be shown during IPTV's Festival Week--at 8:30 p.m. this Thursday and at 11:30 a.m. this Saturday, The first airing of the full story about Decorah will be 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14th. The segment will continue to be replayed numerous times over the summer and will also be archived on the IPTV's website for on-demand viewing.
An IPTV film crew spent an entire day in Decorah on November 15th, capturing Decorah's Trout Run Trail, the unique artwork along the trail and the mountain biking systems near Dunning Springs, Ice Cave and Palisades Park. Locals were also interviewed including Trails of Winneshiek volunteer, John Hjelle and mountain biking guru Richard 'Deke' Gosen.
An IPTV film crew more recently visited on Monday, February 28th and Tuesday, March 1st to film Decorah's famous bald eagles and fly fishing. "The eagles did everything I asked," laughed John Torpy, IPTV Videographer.
Torpy went to great lengths to capture the best possible footage of the eagles. "I spent eight hours in the barn with a sack lunch, two pigeons, and a constant cold breeze. It was worth every minute."
The eagle footage will be used in the show "Iowa Outdoors," which is a partnership between Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Outdoors Magazine and IPTV. It will likely air in November.
The crew also spent a considerable amount of time at North Bear Creek, near Highlandville, with local fly fishing expert and guide Kent Kleckner. That story will air on "Iowa Outdoors" later this summer.
