decorahnews.com has talked with Robert Stevenson of Stevenson Property Management, who manages the building and is in charge of the building renovation. The building is managed for a multi-state legal practice, known in California as Trial Lawyers for Justice. Virtually all of their practice is outside the state of Iowa, and work done in Iowa has been pro bono.
The building renovation remains a work in progress, but the top floors (3 and 4) are fully functioning as law offices, including the practice of one local attorney not directly associated with the firm.
The second floor remains unfinished and is anticipated to be divided into two or three apartments.
The first floor currently includes a barber shop and a bakery that have long operated in the building. Much of that floor remains open and unfinished. Earlier there had been discussion about the space being used as a restaurant, but that question remains open at this time. The basement area also remains open and unfinished. Currently there is not any active solicitation of tenants for any of the undeveloped spaces.
Mr. Stevenson was pleased to note that the substantial renovation project has involved only local contractors and locally purchased materials.
