State Senator Mary Jo Wilhelm is praising the Smokefree Air Act, which was passed by the Iowa legislature in 2008. Wilhelm says a new poll shows that 79 percent of Iowa voters believe the legislation has made Iowa a better place to live, work and raise a family. Wilhelm says it's estimated the measure has saved countless people from cancer.
The poll by the Iowa Tobacco Prevention Alliance also found that 73 percent of Iowa voters do not want the law repealed and 63 percent want to see it expanded to cover casinos. Of those going out more, 79 percent are visiting places they used to avoid because of second-hand smoke.
