City of Decorah accepts offer by Luther College of more time to work out recreational field complex

Posted: Tue, Feb 22, 2011 8:26 AM

Supporters of a proposed recreational complex on Pole Line Road now have until May of 2012 to begin construction.

Luther College owns the property on which the recreational complex would sit. It has agreed to lease the property for a 25-year term if backers of the complex can raise the necessary money.

Luther officials had originally set a deadline of May of 2011 for the project to be completed. But supporters of the plan waited until they were sure the Trout Run Trail project had the funding it needed. They say they will now redouble their efforts to raise the money necessary for the recreational complex.

On Monday night the Decorah City Council accepted Luther's offer to extend the construction deadline by one year.

Also Monday night, city council members approved a $22,000 bid from Perry Novak Electric for an emergency generator for the Decorah Fire Department and they reappointed Lenny Graves to the Human Rights Commission.
