U.S. Census Bureau:Winneshiek County and City of Decorah both lost population

The U.S. Census Bureau has released 2010 population figures for the State of Iowa.

According to the Census Bureau, there are 21,056 people living in Winneshiek County.  That's a loss of 254 people from the 2000 population count in Winneshiek County.

The City of Decorah has also lost population in the last ten years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.  The agency says 8,127 people are living in the City of Decorah now--a decrease of 45 people from 2000.

The population figures are used for a variety of reasons, including the creation of Congressional districts and state legislative districts.
