The Luther College women's basketball team has raised $400 in donations for cancer programs through its annual "Pink Zone" fundraiser, part of an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities.
Thanks to the sales of t-shirts and donations from fans, the Norse are sending checks to the Winneshiek County Celebration of Life and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Kay Yow is a former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach who served as the catalyst for the initiative after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006. In four years since then the Womens Basketball Coaches Association has raised nearly $33.3 million, has reached almost 2.7 million fans, and has unified over 4,700 participants.
