Veterans Administration says "no" to Winneshiek Medical Center

Last year the Veterans Administration decided not to accept an offer to locate a new outpatient clinic on property adjacent to the Winneshiek Medical Center, picking property at the former Wal-Mart building instead.

Now Winneshiek Medical Center Chief Administrative Officer Dan Werner says the VA has also decided not to use the hospital for any services, such as imaging.  Werner calls his discussions with VA officials "cordial."  But he says he's been told the VA outpatient clinic will do everything on site.

In cases where the new Decorah outpatient clinic won't have the facilities needed, such as in performing CT scans, patients will be sent to the existing VA Clinic in Iowa City to get the tests done.
