Decorah native David Scott has been selected as one of 13 students nationwide to receive a Dempster Graduate Fellowship, a scholarship awarded by the national United Methodist Church.
Scott grew up attended First United Methodist Church in Decorah and is currently a member of Union UMC in Boston. He is a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin and is currently enrolled in a PhD program in Boston University, studying the history of Christianity and specifically World Christianity and mission history.
The fellowships are funded by the Ministerial Education Fund through the United Methodist Church's General Board of Higher Education and Ministry's Division of Ordained Ministry. Awards are based on the student's academic achievement, their commitment to Christian ministry, and their promise as educators. They carry a value of up to $10,000 annually, with a maximum of $30,000 over a five-year period.
