Winneshiek Medical Center to offer weight management class starting Thursday

Posted: Wed, Jan 19, 2011 5:14 PM

Winneshiek Medical Center is offering a weight management course, with an informational session at 5:00 p.m. Thursday in the lower level of WMC. This 10-week course will meet every Thursday thereafter in the same location from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The course fee is $180 per person. It will include a registration to the "100-Day Wellness Challenge" in Winneshiek County.

Lead by Winneshiek Medical Center registered dieticians Joetta Redlin and Angie Kerndt, the weight management course focuses on real solutions for long-term weight loss. Participants will learn how to record what they eat, how portion size affects calorie intake and how to modify their favorite recipes to make them more healthful.

Redlin says, "We provide support for people who are tired of dieting and ready to truly lose weight. Angie and I prepare individualized nutrition plans and teach you how to create your own menus, instead of relying on expensive meal plans marketed by weight-loss companies."

The course also covers hot topics in weight management, portion control, how to include minimal activity to increase weight loss and dealing with family and friends who are less then helpful.
