Part of the resolution passed Monday by the Winneshiek County Board banning firearms and other dangerous weapons from county-owned property called for signs to be placed on the county-owned property, informing the public of the rules.
They might want to start at the courthouse. A rule banning weapons from the courthouse was approved in October of 2001. As recently as last summer there were signs posted at the entrances to the courthouse reminding the public of the rules.
But county officials have discovered the signs have somehow disappeared. The absence was noted at a recent meeting of county department heads. The signs will be replaced as soon as possible and signs will be added in the courthouse parking lot also informing the public of the weapons ban.
