Luther College has hired Joan deAlbuquerque as the director of the Luther College Concert Band and as associate professor of music. She replaces Fred Nyline, who is retiring this year after 38 years at Luther.
deAlbuquerque currently serves as associate director of bands and a member of the music faculty at California State University-Long Beach, where she conducts the Symphonic and Concert Bands, teaches conducting and assists in the supervision of music student teachers.
In addition to her work at California State University-Long Beach, deAlbuquerque was interim director of bands at Adams State College, where she directed the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and the Marching Show Band, and director of bands at Pinckney High School in Michigan where she directed the Wind Symphony, Marching Band and taught instrumental and general music at the elementary and middle school levels.
deAlbuquerque holds the bachelor's degree in music education and the master's degree in wind conducting from Michigan State University and the doctoral degree in wind conducting from the University of North Texas.
