WMC's Allan Atkinson takes new job

Former Winneshiek Medical Center Chief Administrative Officer Allan Atkinson has taken a job as interim chief executive officer of the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Wisconsin.

Atkinson retired in 2008 after 10 years as CEO at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.  The hospital paid him for two years as a consultant.  Those payments ended eight months ago.

Atkinson stays in Madison during the week and commutes back to Decorah on weekends.  He plans to work as the interim CEO at Columbus Community Hospital until a new permanent CEO and president is hired in April or May.

Atkinson said that as of last week about 170 applications had already been received for the position. B.E. Smith, which has also been hired to conduct the search for the permanent position, has narrowed those applicants down to 80.
