Winneshiek County officials preparing a letter to Oneota Historic Future Alliance

Winneshiek County officials say they are firm in their desire to have the Caretakers House at Wellington Place torn down.

The Oneota Historic Future Alliance was given a chance to find a tenant for the building, but could not come up with one by the deadline set by county officials.  On November 1st supervisors passed a resolution giving OHFA until April 30th to remove the building.  If the OHFA misses that deadline, it will be charged a $20/day penalty until the building is removed.  If the building isn't removed by June 15th, the county will demolish the building itself--and charge OHFA for the costs.

Winneshiek County Attorney Andy Van Der Maaten is preparing a letter to be sent to the OHFA detailing the deadlines.  County officials say they have heard informally that OHFA might want an extension of those deadlines, but county officials say they are unlikely to grant such a request.
