Spending on mental health and developmental disabilities service dropped in 2010

The annual report on Winneshiek County's Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities programs says spending during 2009-2010 dropped by 13 percent.

The budget for the year was $2,651,000, but only $2,003,000 was actually spent.  The drop in spending was due to an increase in the federal matching funding for Medicaid programs, which was unknown when the budget was created because the federal stimulus plan had not been created, and to having two individuals move out of ICF/MR facilities, for which the county pays the cost, and into nursing facilities, for which the county does not pay the costs.

During the 2009 fiscal year, mental health and developmental disabilities programs cost $2,315,000 to support.
